Based in Tuscaloosa, AL, Crimson Tide Ballroom Dancers (CTBD) offers free lessons at a beginner and an intermediate level on the fundamentals of various styles of ballroom dance to the surrounding community every week on Sundays. The beginner lesson is at 3:00 pm and the intermediate lesson is at 4:00 pm in the gymnasium of Calvary Baptist Church.
Since forming in 2006 by Jimmy Kunz and Jennifer Kunz, Co-Founders, CTBD has striven to create a positive environment for dancers of all skill levels to express themselves on the dance floor. After becoming an official student organization at The University of Alabama in 2010, CTBD established a board of officers consisting of university students to ensure synchronism with the students, providing the best experience possible.
Our dance family is large and diverse: Between our good friends commuting from the Birmingham metro area to join us, to the local university and community college students joining us from across the country and other parts of the globe, our passion for ballroom dance reaches all over the community.
We teach multiple swing styles (e.g., West Coast, East Coast, Single Swing, and Hustle) and ballroom dances, including Cha-Cha, Rumba, Foxtrot, Waltz, Samba, Tango, Bachata and Salsa. CTBD also features several line dances, such as the Peabody, Cupid Shuffle, Electric Slide, and the Barn Dance (circle dance).
